Hi everyone,
Just back from Oz and over the jet lag at last! Phew!
Just wanted to say how much I, and all the bat team enjoyed our time at the Sydney Opera house… what a pleasure! A HUGE thank you to all the fans who made it to the shows, you were so warm and welcoming and made all three evenings electric! I felt so lucky and sad we couldn’t play more shows in other cities there, but we will definitely be back with the next album for sure…
I leave you with a happy champagne filled backstage pic of all of us on the last night!

Auction for Relief Efforts in Japan

Natasha has donated one of her outfits from the ‘Two Suns’ World Tour to the EMI Family 4 Japan campaign which sees artists and songwriters from across the EMI family supporting the Red Cross to raise funds for the people affected by the earthquake and tsunami in Japan.

The outfit is a UK size 10 white bodysuit with a fox head motif and various studded details.

100% of the final sale price will go to the British Red Cross’s aid to Japan and EMI will match all funds raised from the auction (up to a maximum of one million Euros)

“Hello everybody!
Sorry its been so long since I last wrote… a lot of creative foraging has been going on under the dark cover of winter, along with snowy walks in the Sussex Downs, a billion cups of tea, an ever expanding jumper collection and lots of re-reading of childhood books… And now, finally, spring is here!
I am very happy to announce that we will be doing a live outing to Australia in June to play two nights at the Sydney Opera House! I’m so excited to take the live show over there, as we have never played Oz before. We are hoping to play an eclectic set - a mixture of full band, string quartet and perhaps a few musical surprises? It’s a pretty big one to start out with?!!! - bit nervous, but can’t wait to meet you all!
There are also a lot of new songs, films, drawings, paintings, ideas - all of it coming together slowly but surely. It may still be a while, but I’m looking forward to sharing the new record with you.
Finally, I will leave you with a picture of my new kitten. She has been both a great new friend and a brilliant hot water bottle these past months! Ha!

Bat for Lashes plays her only live shows this year by invitation of the Vivid LIVE arts festival in Sydney, Australia. The shows will be held at Sydney Opera House, one of the world’s most iconic buildings, on 3rd and 4th June 2011.

While writing the new album, Natasha has been keeping busy collaborating with other artists including Beck on the track ‘Let’s Get Lost’ which will soon be available as a limited edition 7” as part of Record Store Day.

She also recently covered Depeche Mode’s ‘Strangelove’ as part of Gucci’s ‘Guilty’ campaign.

For those who attended the one-off Bat for Lashes show in Bexhill earlier this year you may remember the animation projected onto the back of the stage and wondered who had made it.

Natasha on her Ivor Novello Award

As you may have heard Bat for Lashes was awarded the Ivor Novello Award for ‘Best Contemporary Song’ for ‘Daniel’ yesterday. Here is a little message from her about that:

“Hello everyone… Wow!!! I am so thrilled and happy to have won an Ivor Novello award! The whole ceremony was really overwhelming with tons of great musicians, songwriters and composers gathered under one roof. I was soooo nervous, but managed not to cry until after I accepted my award.
I think this one means such a lot to me, because its about the craft of songwriting, which at times can be a maddening and terrifying thing to do, but equally joyous and liberating when you think you’ve cracked it. I couldn’t have believed after writing Daniel in my bedroom, dreaming about lost teenage love, that this would happen!

I just want to thank everyone who has supported me to get to this point… I am writing the new album right now and so excited to be creating a whole new world!! Cups of tea, piles of books and musical instruments abound. I am also making some short films which i hope to share with you at some point.

Stay happy and well, and please, if you can, make your vote online to save BBC 6Music. The deadline is approaching, we music lovers can’t afford to lose this radio station!

Bat for Lashes to appear on Twilight s/t

Bat for Lashes has collaborated with Beck on a track exclusively for the new Twilight film ‘Eclipse’.

The song ‘Let’s Get Lost’ is drenched in Beck’s signature lo-fi electronics, with both Bat and Beck duetting Natasha’s lyrics over atmospheric synths and dramatic beats.

The full soundtrack will be available on Atlantic from 8 June, with the film itself on general release from 30 June.

Ivor Novello Nomination for ‘Daniel’

It is with great pleasure that we can announce that Bat for Lashes has been nominated for an Ivor Novello award this year.

‘Daniel’, the lead single from the album ‘Two Suns’, has been entered into the ‘Best Contemporary Song’ award.

The winners will be announced on the 20th of May 2010.

Record Store Day - Exclusive 7”

To celebrate Record Store Day, Bat for Lashes is releasing an exclusive, limited edition 7” on April 17th

The release has two previously unreleased tracks, both of which are live recordings of Natasha performing with a string quartet:

A: Howl! (Live at De La Warr Pavillion)
B: Wild Is The Wind (Live at Grove Music Studios)

Each release will come in a vintage-style paper Parlophone house bag which has been designed especially for the release and uses elements of historic sleeves from the 1960’s to the present day. It is strictly limited (the maximum run is 1000) and exclusive to the independent record shops taking part in the event.

End of a Tour

Tonight in Monterrey, Mexico it’s the last night of a hugely successful tour of Latin America with Coldplay.

Natasha would like to give a big thank you to all the wonderful audiences throughout the tour.
