Natasha on her Ivor Novello Award

Natasha on her Ivor Novello Award

As you may have heard Bat for Lashes was awarded the Ivor Novello Award for ‘Best Contemporary Song’ for ‘Daniel’ yesterday. Here is a little message from her about that:

“Hello everyone… Wow!!! I am so thrilled and happy to have won an Ivor Novello award! The whole ceremony was really overwhelming with tons of great musicians, songwriters and composers gathered under one roof. I was soooo nervous, but managed not to cry until after I accepted my award.
I think this one means such a lot to me, because its about the craft of songwriting, which at times can be a maddening and terrifying thing to do, but equally joyous and liberating when you think you’ve cracked it. I couldn’t have believed after writing Daniel in my bedroom, dreaming about lost teenage love, that this would happen!

I just want to thank everyone who has supported me to get to this point… I am writing the new album right now and so excited to be creating a whole new world!! Cups of tea, piles of books and musical instruments abound. I am also making some short films which i hope to share with you at some point.

Stay happy and well, and please, if you can, make your vote online to save BBC 6Music. The deadline is approaching, we music lovers can’t afford to lose this radio station!

Love natasha “

Here is a link to one of the ways that Natasha mentioned where you can show your support to 6Music.

The album version of Daniel has a very weak arrangement (especially the inappropriate synth patches).  The arrangement on BBC2’s live ‘Later with Jools Holland’ gig was much better.  This great song deserves a completely new studio recording.

BTW ... It’s a shame BBC televison stopped using your beuatiful piano solo as a trailer for their programmes!

Congratulations Natasha! I’m a new BFL fan and just immersed in the soundscapes you’ve created. I enjoy your music so much (listening to Wilderness right now). Happy to hear you’re writing a new album! All the best to you!

I’ve seen you girls (and guy) playing live at Glasto last year, one of the best shows I’ve seen in a while. Such a great atmosphere, same as the last album. All in balance, nice songs / setlist / structure / arrangements / performances. Congrats to you and all your crew - this award was earned.

Well Done Natasha
Your music moves me…no TRANSPORTS me to a far off place, and pulls at heart strings like a harp! Daniel in particular does that to me, and it would seem a lot of people. You were able to tap your subconscious into that song and it comes to life every time you listen to it. So inspired… All the best with the new album! smile Hugs Vix
